Eye Operation

Lasik Eye Surgery, which is the short form for "Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis", is commonly known as Laser Eye Surgery. Using a laser this refractive type of surgery is most commonly done for correction of eye disorders like hyperopia, myopia or astigmatism.

With the help of laser, an ophthalmologist performs; apparently, to improve visual acuity, reshaping of the cornea is done with the help of the laser.

Significantly, Lasik surgeries, like no other procedures, has been colossally beneficial in correcting vision, mainly, because of the effective results of painlessness and gaining good vision immediately the next day after the surgery.

In the procedure, to create a circular and thin flap, an effective instrument called microkeratome is used. In this surgery, we use an excimer laser to remove the corneal tissue underneath after folding the hinged flap back out of the way. With the help of an ultraviolet beam, the excimer accurately removes tiny bits of tissues from the cornea, in order to reshape it, which is also called ablation.

The results of Lasik Eye Surgery is surprisingly wonderful to the extent that, after reshaping the cornea in the way it is done, the procedure works effectively to focus the light on to the retina and into the eyes, giving much clearer vision than what it was before.

Further, the place from where the corneal tissues were ablated or removed, the flap is gently placed. The procedure of Lasik Eye Surgery has been beneficial to both types of problems viz farsightedness and nearsightedness. In case of nearsightedness, the objective is to flatten the cornea that is too steep, whereas a steeper cornea is needed, in case of farsightedness.

Also, Excimer Lasers have been vital in correcting astigmatism, wherein an irregular cornea is smoothed into a much normal shape. If you are thinking to go for Lasik or Laser Eye Surgery, it is vital to consult a qualified doctor.
